Maximum peel is not always required in the world of self-adhesive. Sometimes tapes need to be removable, in other words, can be removed from a surface without leaving residue. However, it is also possible that a special double-sided adhesive must have both properties, removability and high adhesion. This is essentially a double-sided adhesive tape, but we were also asked to use transfers of different adhesive features! In this case, the aim was to create a closed-cell PE foam with, on one side, an adhesive able to strongly adhere on difficult surfaces and, on the other side, an easily removable adhesive. The goal was to temporarily attach a piece on the removable side, process the piece and then detach it without damage. This tape had to be used several times before replacing it with a new one. The removable side was the toughest challenge as it had to have sufficient strength to hold the piece but not so much that it could not be removed without causing damage. Several tests were necessary to find an excellent solution that met our Customer’s need.
